Dolphin ICS and ScaleDB partner to deliver High-performance scalable MySQL appliances
Shared-disk database clustering with PCI Express interconnect delivers real clustering capability at a fraction of the cost
Menlo Park, CA & Marlborough, MA – April 16, 2009 -- Dolphin ICS—a global provider of ultra low-latency server and storage connectivity solutions—and ScaleDB— the only provider of shared-disk clustering for MySQL— today announced a strategic partnership to deliver high-performance MySQL database appliances. The companies will combine ScaleDB’s innovative high-performance shared-disk clustering with Dolphin’s high-performance storage solutions and interconnects in an appliance that seamlessly plugs into any database infrastructure. The ScaleDB/Dolphin solution turns MySQL into a clustering powerhouse, ideal for mission-critical OLTP, DSS/OLAP and web applications. The ScaleDB/Dolphin solution delivers performance, scalability and high-availability features previously available only on high-cost systems from Oracle and others. The ScaleDB/Dolphin solution can deliver similar capabilities for less than a tenth of the cost.
ScaleDB enables multiple cluster nodes to access and process the entire database located on shared storage. By enabling multiple nodes to operate on the same data, it is imperative that both the storage and the interconnects be very fast, to maintain optimal cluster-wide performance. The ScaleDB/Dolphin solution includes Dolphin’s StorExpress PCI Express flash storage components, for storage that is up to 10-times faster than hard disks. Dolphin also provides the low latency PCI Express server interconnects that speed the performance of the nodal communications by up to 8-times. The combination of Dolphin and ScaleDB technologies enables MySQL to deliver outstanding performance to OLTP and other mission-critical enterprise applications.
“MySQL appliances are a natural extension of the high-performance solutions we have been providing to the MySQL community over the past several years,” said Tim Miller, CEO of Dolphin ICS. “By teaming with ScaleDB we are able to deliver the tuned, prepackaged solutions our customers have been asking for—our mission has been to deliver the highest performance capability to MySQL users and teaming with ScaleDB is allowing us to do just that.”
“The ScaleDB storage engine brings the open source MySQL database to a new set of users who previously were forced into very high-cost commercial databases. By leveraging the power and market-share of MySQL, we are able to deliver shared-disk clustering for a fraction of the price of competitive products,” said Mike Hogan, CEO of ScaleDB. “By partnering with Dolphin we can deliver a proven and certified solution that is designed, tuned and packaged for high-performance and low TCO.”
Dolphin and ScaleDB are participating in the annual MySQL conference next week in Santa Clara, CA. Their initial appliance products will are available this quarter. Additional jointly developed enhancements and capabilities will be announced later in the year.
