PXIe System Switch PCIe Cable Adapter

Dolphin’s 3U MXP924 PXIe / CompactPCI Express Switch card is a powerful building block for PXIe systems. The system module enables PXIe PCIe 3.0 chassis to connect to servers, other PXIe, CompactPCI Serial or and IO expansion systems using a PCIe 4.0 link.

  • 24 Lane PCIe 3.0 backplane ports
  • Compliant to PXISA
  • Transparent PXIe expansion
  • PCIe 4.0 SFF-8644 cables
  • 3U rack mountable
  • Port status LEDs
  • Copper and Fiber-optic cables
  • Microchip PCIe 4.0 PFX chipset

MXP924 Product Data

The MXP924 PXIe PCIe cable module is designed to create a flexible and scalable PXIe fabric solution. Combined with the PCIe Host card MXH932, the MXP924 enables servers and embedded systems to connect to PXIe systems utilizing full PCIe 4.0 wire speed. Multi-chassis configurations can be set up by daisy chaining several MXP924 boards or connecting two MXP924 directly to a MXH932.

PXIe PXISA Multi Chassis

PCI Express 4.0 / 3.0

The MXP924 is designed for PCIe 3.0 link speeds in the backplane and PCIe 4.0 via the front panel PCIe cable port. It will auto negotiate to the highest speed supported by each component connected to individual port. This allows you to mix various generation of equipment without scarifying performance between high speed components.

PCIe Cable ports

The MXP924 switch has a quad SFF-8644 PCIe 4.0 cable connectors to allow connectivity to external servers and IO devices. The cable port can be used as two independent PCIe 4.0 x8 links or one PCIe 4.0 x16 link. Each SFF-8644 connector has a protected 3.3V supply to support up to four PCIe 4.0 AOCs. The MXP924 supports up to 5 meters copper cables. Fiber optics extends this distance to 100 meters. More info on cables for the MXP924 PXIe switch module.

Backplane support

The MXP924 follows the PXISA PXIE-1 rev 2.3 and PXISA PCIE-5 Hardware specification 1.1. The default backplane configuration is PCIe 3.0 x16 + x8. PCIe 3.0 x4 + x4 + x4 + x4 can be selected using the DIP switch.

Software support

The eXpressWare software distribution adds a PXI System Library integration (PXI Software Specification Revision 2.5) which allows software like Keysight IO Suite to discover and enumerate a number of PXI chassis and the 3rd party expansion boards.

Support for the MXH924 was introduced with eXpressWare 5.19.2. The software for the MXP924 must be installed on a host also having the MXH932 card installed. Please select and install the Board Management Package option with the installer to install the PXI System Library.
